1. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
Mayank Agrawal Jun 5, 2008 11:52 PM (in response to octechwriter)Please let me know if you are using the same FrameMaker files giving the error while updating the files using different versions of RoboHelp.
Secondly, here are the steps which can help.
1. Close source FrameMaker files if opened in FrameMaker and ensure that the FrameMaker files are not opened from any other location.
2. Open the folder where the source book and FM files are kept.
3. Delete all .lck files(if present) in the folder.
4. Try updating the files in RH 7.0.2 now.
Please let me know if this helps.

michaelscohen Jun 12, 2008 12:26 PM (in response to octechwriter)I just upgraded to 7.01 then to 7.02 and I'm getting this error for ALL projects:
"Failed to get any FrameMaker document from ..... (path to FM book)"
Hell of an upgrade, guys. I also had to uninstall 7.02. And the steps listed above did not help. -

JainVivek Jun 13, 2008 1:06 AM (in response to michaelscohen)You need to restart your machine after applying RH 7.0.2. -
4. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
gideonv Jun 17, 2008 10:31 PM (in response to JainVivek)I have come across this problem after I upgraded the TCS. I found out that when I activate the update function from FM and forget to close FM you get a message that FM is open. Whatever you choose in this message box and if you close FM before you click OK or Cancel, you will get this message.
My solution is to role back, run FM and click on Update, close FM directly and let the update run. After that perform a reboot of your computer. -
5. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
robert-sfl Jun 19, 2008 4:18 AM (in response to octechwriter)I get this error frequently. Sometimes it could be resolved by deleting an old locking file *lck in the frame sources that evidently prevented RH from opening the book file. -
6. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
octechwriter Jul 3, 2008 9:20 AM (in response to octechwriter)I'm a little confused, and frankly becoming increasingly pissed at how poorly RoboHelp is working.
1. I always open the book in FM and open all the files and save all the files (this keeps other users out of the FM files while RH updates, and prevents RH from being hung up on FM error messages that display in the background) This is the way I have always done it before the latest patch, and this was the only way I could guarantee RH could update without a hitch. Now, folks in this discussion advise closing FrameMaker, the book, and all the FM files. Why?
2. Once I close the FM files, I have no lck files in my folder. The lck files are not the cause of RH's failure to Update or Force Update in my situation.
3. I uninstalled the latest RH update, and now RH crashes when I attempt to Update or Force Update. I uninstalled the entire TCS, reinstalled, and downloaded all the updates. The damn thing still crashes every time.
I notice that the tone of the TCS posts is becoming increasingly hostile, especially in regard to RH integration with FM. Adobe really needs to pull it head out an fix this stuff before they start trying to sell my company on TCS 2.0. -
7. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
TeachingMom Jul 13, 2008 2:25 PM (in response to octechwriter)Has anyone found an answer to this issue?
I am currently attempting to create a new project referenced to a FrameMaker books. I had done this successfully with previous projects but now I keep getting the "Failed to get any FrameMaker documents from..." message. This is extremely frustrating especially when facing a REALLY TIGHT deadline!!! I was a huge advocate of the Adobe products and the sole voice that sold my managers on purchasing the TCS to create our help system, but I am quickly losing confidence and I know my manager will lose patience even quicker!!! -
8. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
octechwriter Jul 14, 2008 10:37 AM (in response to TeachingMom)I have also advocated Adobe products and was the person responsible for selling my managers on the TCS. I understand your loss of confidence. I keep praying that this is just a "rough transition," but with each new patch Adobe releases, it's like we're taking one step forward and two steps back.
I eventually broke down, deleted the entire project, and created a new project. Depending on how much customizing you did and whether you have exported and saved any templates, style mappings, CSS, and CSH mappings, this can be a very labor-intensive task.
The new project will be constructed from the latest FM files. I have noticed that after recreating projects, sometimes the update function works again, but sometimes it doesn't (which means you need to recreate your project anytime there's an update to the text).
This is a poor resolution that will have to do until Adobe can resolve the issue. -
9. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
lindalem Jul 30, 2008 7:03 AM (in response to octechwriter)I thought I would add one more person to the list of people being challenged by this problem.
I am consistently getting the error described when I try to "copy by reference" a FM 8.0p277 book. A few times I was able to "copy by reference" a document into RH, but not consistently.
I went home and installed the software and was able to successfuly add the book by reference in RH 7.02.001. Just to verify it's not user error since my purpose is to learn this new feature.
I've tried the steps presented by Mr. Agarwal. Needless to say it didn't work. Like everyone else, I talked my manager into the product. My credibility is sinking fast. Help! -

Hi
As someone contemplating purchasing TCS and having also pushed the idea with my managers this is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling inside!!
I was thinking of creating standalone release notes in Framemaker, then importing into RH for the OLH version I require, whilst making use of FMs superior capabilities for the printed version I have to create. (Word is frankly not fit for purpose). The entries in this forum are making me think again. In the situation I envisage, reliability and stabilty are critical. I'm not going to start using a package where the ground is constantly shifting beneath my feet! Adobe please take note...

11. RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
chupper25 Aug 1, 2008 1:10 PM (in response to octechwriter)Having the exact same issue. I even tried creating a new RH project and Adding a Framemaker File "by Ref" and selecting the TCS Exercise Files from the online tutorial showing how this works and I get the same message. -
12. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
johnstst Aug 14, 2008 10:51 AM (in response to chupper25)I'm not sure whether this will help, and by way of disclaimer, I am a complete amateur...
I found the same issue when trying to follow the TCS Seminar. However, by creating a WebHelp project as opposed to Flash Help as the tutorial recommends, and by starting with FM closed (again, contrary to the tutorial), I've been 100% successful in referencing FM files. This has also worked with my own files that were exported via script from InDesign CS3 to Word and then opened within FM before being referenced by Robohelp.
Hope this is of some help -
13. RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
AmandaTSS Aug 21, 2008 6:33 AM (in response to johnstst)I am so glad that I am not the only one having this problem! I have recreated my RoboHelp project three times to fix the problem. And everything works great for about a week and then I get that error message. I will definitely try creating a WebHelp as opposed to FlashHelp, thank you!
Amanda
I have been working using the suggestion from johnstst, creating a WebHelp project, for several weeks. I have not had any problems since then. -

15. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
porch73 Sep 24, 2008 1:54 PM (in response to johnstst)None of the solutions in this thread have worked for me.
If I add a book by "reference", I get the "failed to get any FrameMaker documents".
If I add a file by "reference", I get "<file>.fm could not be opened. Please verify this as a valid FrameMaker document".
If I add a file by "copy", I get "The operation cannot be continued. FrameMaker is not responding." (it is indeed responding and just fine).
If I add a .mif file, the import works.
So, what do I do? This is pretty ridiculous. -
16. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
octechwriter Sep 24, 2008 3:59 PM (in response to octechwriter)None of these options worked for me either. The only option I had was to scrap my whole RH project and start over. I hate to suggest that you do the same, but I don't see any alternative.
Jain's answer didn't work because the 7.0.2 installer forces you to restart your computer before using RH anyway, so that wasn't the cause of the problem.
Johnstst's answer didn't work for me because I started with a WebHelp project to begin with.
Nobody seems to have an explanation for why a project that was previously working suddenly doesn't want to sync with FM anymore.
One question: are you the only person opening and modifying the RH project, or are you part of group with the project residing on a network drive?

porch73 Sep 25, 2008 12:01 PM (in response to octechwriter)Indeed, I'm the only person working on the files, and everything is local.
'Just called support and was told to uninstall/reinstall. Apparently, the latest RH7 patch was suppose to fix this issue. -

19. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
Wigglefoot Oct 27, 2008 8:22 PM (in response to octechwriter)I got it to work.
The 7.0.2 patch broke my project. It was WinHelp, and I was importing my FM8 files by reference. I restarted the computer, and I still could not open any files. I deleted the FrameMaker .lck files, and updated the FM preferences not to use file locking. This did not help. I had to blow away all of the FM files, and still could not import.
I finally was able to re-add the files only by completely closing Frame Maker.
Now I've more or less got my project back (except for the TOC and index, which I'll fix tomorrow), and I can force an update with the FM files open without getting an error.
Based on what I've read here, it's only a matter of time before this breaks again, though.
It's just incredible that such basic functionality -- indeed, the entire reason for the suite -- breaks as the result of a patch. Has anybody filed a bug report on this? I see that it's been a problem since last June! -
20. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
Gloria Mc Dec 18, 2008 12:19 PM (in response to Wigglefoot)I see that there are no further posts since October. Does this mean that people have solved the problem? (Or given up?) I received this error message, but I had the Frame book/files open. After I closed them, quite FrameMaker and RoboHelp, checked for .lck files, then restarted Frame and RoboHelp, I was able to add the book to RoboHelp by reference. This is my first leap into Frame+RoboHelp, so I don't know if this will break in a week or so. I have Frame 8.0p277 and RoboHelp 7.02.001 on Windows XP Professional.
Would appreciate hearing what's going on with others currently. --GMc -
21. Re: RoboHelp 7.0.2 fails to sync with FM Changes
Ed Hawco Aug 6, 2009 11:17 AM (in response to Gloria Mc)Hi. I've been using TCS 1.0 for about a year (since July 08) on a WinXP machine. I have not been using RH, and in that time I was constantly getting nagged to install the RH 7.01 update. I'd try, but it would always fail to install. Now that I'm starting to use RH, I have extra incentive to fix that problem. I ended up reinstalling TCS, and then I successfully updated to 7.01, 7.02, and 7.03.
Prior to that reinstall and update, I did NOT experience the "Failed to get any FrameMaker document from..." error. After the reinstall and updates, I now get the error. I can work around it by closing all FM files and closing FM, but that's a stupid workaround.
Note that I am on 7.03, not 7.02.
So yes, the problem still exists, and I'm wondering if I should roll back to 7.01.
