SWF videos not playing in swf webpage???

    JayRoot Level 1

Created a 5 page web page using flash. Have six movies that play when selected on second page. Every single test I do on my pc works perfectly, but the second I upload it the swfplayer skin and video does not play. The first images of the scene loads??? But nothing more. They were not embedded videos, but linked and I had tried to figure out how to load my videos as embedded links from youtube to save space but that fails 100%.

      The webpage is www.craibwoud.com

Sorry it is for a class, and being forced to publish it for a grade eventhough we have never been taught anything about html or AS 3.0. I have tried checking the url for the video's address, but that does not seem to work either. I just have a bad feeling I will be forced to embed the swfs and cause the swf file to be wayyyy to big.

BTW, the movie clips are in a movie clip and I noticed that the sounds for mouseover buttons in that frame do not work on the published version, but the mouseclick sounds do???

In the past I've had similar problems not getting playback.... Until I learned "embedding" works better,,, or I've had more success by "embedding" my flvs into my swf file.

Try importing your video again, and this time, when importing it - select "embedded video", and proceed with what you were already doing. See if that works.  I am but a beginner here too, so don't take what I say as a fix,,,,, just trying to return some help here.

Try importing, and embedding your flv file.

Almost every time that Flash videos work on your local machine, but not from the server... it's a pathing issue... see article below.

Also, double check that all the needed files have been uploaded... very easy to miss something.

And if your video files are .f4v, many hosts have not yet updated the MIME type on the server to handle those file types.

My suggestion, create a single Flash doc with just one vid player on it, get that working, get all the files uploaded to server and test that.... Do NOT attempt to incorporate multiple videos into a main .swf until you can successfully display one single video.

Do NOT "embed" videos into the main timeline... you will have many problems with that.

              Review your pathing:

              Pathing issues

Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.

In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.
              Best wishes,

Learn about MIME Types and make sure your host has that correctly set if you are using .f4v files:

If you still have problems, then just post a single vid player and let us trouble shoot that. Right now it's pretty tough to find out any thing about the vid player since it's inside the main .swf.

              Best wishes,

Thank you guys for your replies, I will check it out when I get home. I will make a dummy file like you said to test. I will get back with the results...I hope it is the mime thingy since that means I for once was not causing the errors...that said I am pretty sure I only encoded flv files...but not sure. As for embedding, I was skipping it also because of file size and page loading. I have heard it can cause loading issues.

I could never get it to work, but since the dealine was coming up I only got part way through when my test player flash crashed and I had to remake it I just removed the movie symbol and expaned the main frames by 5...added the buttons to the main timeline and a bunch of other annoyances...but now it works. It would have been nice to not have to do this...but I did not have the time to wait.

Now working...but any advice on a good tutorial on how to insert a youtube video into a swf file via flash (not using dreamweaver or such...just flash cs5).
