Im getting this tomorrow. My point is make as much Taste to Premier pro In order to find the best Performance.

      GPU´S TO TO  TASTE: GTX275, GTX460, GTS 450, GTX 560, HD 6950.

I have the above HDD  and I like to hear some Ideas for a HDD CONFIGURTION, and if any body have good ideas to be taste please feel free.:

      3X300GB W.D. Raptor.

      2X1TB W.D. CAVIAR BLACK.

      4x1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA

      2x120GB Corsair Force Series 3.

          Cristobal,

          My initial thoughts are:

C: 120GB Corsair Force Series 3 for OS & programs.

D: 120GB Corsair Force Series 3 for pagefile and stock footage.

E: 3X300GB W.D. Raptor in raid0 for media cache and previews.

          F: 1TB W.D. CAVIAR BLACK for export.

G: 4x1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA in raid3/5 for media and projects with a dedicated raid controller.

          H: 1TB W.D. CAVIAR BLACK for backups.

Note that I suggest to increase the number of Seagate Barracuda disks to increase performance and possibly use a QNAP or Thecus NAS for backup.

For the video card go for the 560 Ti with 2 GB VRAM or better.

          It looks good.

            Greate Harm.

Aus have the new teghnology called Ram cache where from the OS we can set part of the ran as a cache in one of the HDD. To wich HDD will you give this ram cache??

As well they have something called SSD cache wich let you intagrate a SSD with a HDD. Jus like a Hybritd.

Will you use those new tegnology? and how will you use them?

            Thx.v.m.

              Cristobal,

With your current disks, I doubt that you can benefit from the SSD cache technology, since you already have a SSD boot disk. You could use the second SSD to complement E or G, but I don't think it will make any difference, given the speed of those raid arrays.

AFAIK Ramcache is like a RAM disk, that takes a dedicated portion of the RAM to act like it were a disk. If my understanding is correct, then I would only consider that with 64 GB memory and then allocate 16 - 32 GB to that Ramcache.

Unfortunately there is still a lot to be discovered about the capabilities of SB-E and the various implementations of the mobo's so definite answers are almost impossible to give at this moment, but you can offer yourself as a guinea pig in that area.

" but you can offer yourself as a guinea pig in that area."

That is what I´m doing. I allready have some Ideas and Im  open tO try whatever in the new SB-E. I will keep the result in the PPBM5 OR 6 so every one can fallow the progress and the results.

I have in mind that RAM cache could work like a Areca RAID controller limitted to the # of sata port on the MB. maybe Im wrong as I do not fully understand how they work.

BTW when we will see a PP CS 6?

Do you think I should make taste on cs5.03 and 5.5 in order to make better comparision? or just on the 5.5?

                  • 6. Re: New PC i7 3930
                    Harm Millaard Level 7

Just CS5.5 because the number of systems with CS5.0 will be decreasing and because of the limitations of the PPBM5 benchmark. We had never expected that frame buffering would have such an impact on results but the new frame buffering architecture makes a huge difference. In the new test we try to avoid those anomalies, but that will only come out after CS6 has been published and we have had time to test the new timelines.

Definitely, because it will show the benefits of overclocking.

I really apreciate help whit the HDD, as you can see this will take a lot of time. Im 100% sure I will get the maximun of this plataform as I did whit the X58  and will be very cool and informative to document all this in the PPBM so people will be able to compare whit a grate bases as I did in the ppbm5.

Enclose some pic to show hardware to compare.:

From your experince, would the performance tradre off be significant if he where to just have all those drives in raid 3/5 and have everything work off the raid? I am just thinking in terms of easy projec file management.

                              Thanks,
