To Capture (the process used with mini-DV tapes), you need FireWire 400 (IEEE-1394). If your computer does not have an IEEE-1394 connection (often called iLink), one can either add a card with the controller chip and connections, or with a laptop, add an ExpressCard, or PCMCIA card with the same.
What camera do you have (make and model) ? What output sockets does it have ?
Ideally can you take a photo of them and post that here.
Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your children
Have to look at camera when I get home. I think I will just add a Firewire card
One can get a good IEEE-1394A FW card for about US $ 10. They are easy to install, and set up.
If one gets an expansion card with multiple connections, I would get one with a separate controller chip for each connection, though the price goes up slightly.
Also, when Capturing via FW, it's best to NOT have anything else FW on that controller chip, and do NOT daisy-chain the devices.
