timestamp of recording - file name or where to see data code

Perhaps more for a Sony camcorder forum, but someone here might know.

Being a hobbyist I enjoy making short films of holidays and of the kids as they grow up. (currently using PP CS3)

Currently considering buying a new camera (Sony CX700 or Canon HF G10) and move from HDV to AVCHD editing (and to CS5.5).  One of the little things I enjoyed was the day I discovered a free download, HDV Split, which allowed naming of transfered recordings (files) to be named when the recording was shot. I have found this extremely useful when putting a film together with recordings taken over a long time period. I could see directly in the timeline when every shot was filmed. Nice.

How will this work in the new (tapeless) world? Will I still have easy access to data code and the day when a clip was shot?
