CSS Simon Dec 16, 2011 7:12 AM (in response to Heirloom Bob)In Lightroom, Library menu, do you have "Show photos in subfolders" checked?

c.frans w Dec 16, 2011 7:16 AM (in response to Heirloom Bob)Don't check "same folder as original photo" and nothing in "Put in subfolder"
and under "specific folder" go "choose" to the exact address.

Heirloom Bob Dec 16, 2011 8:22 AM (in response to c.frans w)CSS Simon..yes I do have it checked. I am not sure why you ask because I have no problem seeing the photos, it's just that they appear in both my original folder and my jpg export subfolder.
c.frans w...if I do that will I not have to specify the folder for each and every export? I want to run the preset, have the jpg appear in a subfolder of the original and the resulting jpg appear only in the subfolder. This way my RAW shots are always in the original folder and the edited shots exported as jpg, appear in a subfolder of the original.

If I understand you correctly, when you export, you choose "same folder as original" and check "put in subfolder" and "Add to this catalog". The result is that it exports to the subfolder and adds it to the catalog.
If you have "Show photos in subfolders" checked in the Library menu, then you will see the exported file both when you select the subfolder in the "Folders" list on the left in library view, and it will also appear when you select the parent folder. That's what "Show photos in subfolders" does - when you selet a folder, it shows you the images in that folder and all subfolders at the same time. Isn't that the problem you are describing?
By the way, you might want to consider whether you want to include the exported jpeg in the catalog. Is there a particular reason for that? I export images for various reasons: to upload to the web, to send to someone else, to publish on Facebook, to send to a print lab or whatever. But I don't keep the exported version. Once I've published it, sent it off etc I delete the jpeg. After all, I can recreate it from the original if I ever need it again. For me, that's the power of Lightroom. No need for multiple versions (except where I want multiple edited versions for artistic reasons, not multiple export versions).

Heirloom Bob Dec 16, 2011 9:01 AM (in response to CSS Simon)You are absolutley right!! Once I unchecked Show photos in subfolder, the "duplication disappeared. Good job.
