    Replacing colors not working?

    jksf13k Community Member

      Hi,

I have a picture of an old retro tv that I want to change the edge color of the tv from red to sky blue.

I follow the steps from the Adobe Photoshop CS5 "Clasroom in a book" using the color replacement tool, size 15 pixels brush, hardness 40%, and spacing 25%, hue, continuous sampling, fine edges, tolerances 32% and auto-alias.

I brgan paintng and the color comes out in a very dark forest green?

Is there a way to change the original red color to sky blue?

I encourage you not to use the Color Replacement Tool as it is destructive.

Adjustment Layers (Hue/Saturation and if necessary Curves to edit the luminance) or a Solid Color Layer set to Blend Mode Color or Hue should work, too.

Could you post a lores or screenshot of the original image and the problematic result? (From the browser, not via mail-reply!)

            Hi,

Here is the tv I found online and modified slightly (red is original), the second image I used with the color replacement tool that didn't come out well in a darkish blue. and last the sky blue one that I want I just used the brush and manually went around. I guess it's okay if you don't notice the color is a little off but if to be cleaner on the edges, how should I use the other tools to make it look better?

Here is the tv I found online

What do you mean by that exactly?

Are you talking about purchasing a stock image and not planning on violating someone’s copyrights?

A Hue/Saturation Layer (and a Curves Layer with a Layer Mask üpossibly to better edit the Luminance) could be used.

                Hi c.pfaffenbichler,

I'm using an old retro tv as a logo and changing it's features so it won't be the same but still in the retro style.

I took an online photoshop class the first time in the summer 011' but I forgot a lot of stuff since and still need to work on remembering the steps by practicing more. I know how to make a new layer but how did you create a "Hue/Saturation Layer (and a Curves Layer with a Layer Mask üpossibly to better edit the Luminance)" as you mentioned? How did you get to the page showing the Custom Preset Hue/Saturation/Lightness? Thanks!

                  Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation

(also the fourth button from the left at the bottom of the Layers Panel)
