toymaker1 Dec 21, 2011 4:50 AM (in response to ja3754)Thanks for your response.
I unchecked zoom resizes windows in general prefs, but unfortunately the problem is still there. - the working window changes size when I select "fit to window".
I recently trashed the Photoshop prefs, and started again. The problem has been since then.
Regards.

ja3754 Dec 21, 2011 5:14 AM (in response to toymaker1)Where are you selecting "fit to window"?

4. Re: Window size changes randomly!
toymaker1 Dec 21, 2011 5:57 AM (in response to ja3754)I have tried "fit screen" on the options bar, and " fit on screen" from the Phtoshop menu bar.
In both cases the window shrinks to fit around the image canvas. I dont want the window to shrink/change.

5. Re: Window size changes randomly!
ja3754 Dec 21, 2011 6:16 AM (in response to toymaker1)That's how it behaves with me too. The window only stays the same size if I zoom with the magnifyer, use the keyboard shortcuts (Cmd + or -) or use the Navigator panel.
I don't know if it suits the way you work, but you could try View > Screen Mode > Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar.

toymaker1 Dec 21, 2011 6:34 AM (in response to ja3754)Thanks.
I dont like full screen mode, I prefer to keep the window at a size which is comfortabe for me to work.
From what you have said, it seems as if I cant prevent the main window from constantly changing size each tyime I select fit to screen.
I am baffled, because I have been using Phtotoshop CS4 with a window size setting which stays the same regardless of how I zoom the image/canvas. Odd isn't it?

toymaker1 Dec 21, 2011 6:58 AM (in response to toymaker1)I have solved the problem!
If this is useful to anyone else, to keep the window at a fixed size regardless of zooming or fit to screedn, I checked "open documents as tabs" in the interface secdtion of CS4 prefs.
That seems to do the trick.
Thanks for all advice.

ja3754 Dec 21, 2011 9:27 AM (in response to toymaker1)Strange. "Open Documents as Tabs" doesn't make any difference to zooming on my setup; it acts just as before.

toymaker1 Dec 21, 2011 10:01 AM (in response to ja3754)Hi
Have you tried also unchecking "zoom resizes windows" in general prefs?

10. Re: Window size changes randomly!
ja3754 Dec 21, 2011 10:11 AM (in response to toymaker1)Already unchecked.
Incidentally, I'm not expecting it to behave any differently than the way it does. It just seems odd that it behaves differently on two different computers. But as long as it's zooming the way you want, all's well.
