In any application, to switch to any other OPEN application, just hold down the COMMAND key and "tap" the TAB key.
An onscreen overlay will come up that shows all your currently open application, just tap the TAB key to move forward to the desired application
COMMAND, SHIFT and tapping TAB will show the same but just moves through the list backwards.
The important thing is to "Tap" the Tab key, holding down the Tab key will just very rapidly cycle through your applications.
This is even faster that clicking the icons in the dock.
