You may want to try the following:
Run this fix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall Reader using Add/Remove Programs
If you want to reinstall Reader, download it from http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
That worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch!
Hoping you can help me as the same thing is happing to me, tried your suggestion above but I am getting the same issues.
All my PDF docs have the IE symbol next to them and only open up in IE and I cannot print them either.
Sorry, but this doesn't sound at all like "the same thing" happening to you. Can you open any file that you know is a PDF from within Reader (File > Open > ...)?
No I can't. At the moment I don't have any Adobe installed.... uninstalled to try and reinstall which didn't work.
Do you mean that the MS fix didn't work for you? Then you may want to try removing all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
And do read the Editor's note before using the utility.
