Photoshop images into Illustrator

I want to use a shape created in Photoshop with a style applied.When I bring it into Illustrator, apply Live Trace, the style disappears.

How can I keep the style intact?

You simply can't.

Photoshop Layer styles do not translate to Illustrator objects.

just incase you dont mean actually bringing the "style" into AI, but how it looks in PS. If you convert the layer with the object in PS to a smart layer, then "bring" in into AI, it will retain the look.

Thak you Grant,

Just to confirm that I am proceeding correctly - I created the image in Photoshop, converted the layer with the object to smart object, placed it into Illustrator.
My observation is that the object does retain the appearance I need, but I can't select the object, as in Expand in Live Trace or Direct Seclect or Selection tool.
I will be using this image as a logo that I will be needing in a variey of sizes.
Any other tips you have for me?
