Legal-size scan from HP printer displays as cropped letter-size PDF in Reader

I'm trying to scan a legal size document (8.5 x 14 inches) from my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer/scanner to Acrobat Reader, version X.  I want the PDF to be legal size, like the original document.  However, the scanned document displays in Adobe Reader as an 8.5- x 11-inch PDF; moreover, it crops 2.5 inches off the original document's 14-inch image.  I checked the scanning profile of my HP OfficeJet, and it indicates a paper size of 8.5 x 14 inches for the original document, so the HP scan setting for paper size is correct.  Do I need to adjust settings in Acrobat Reader to enable a display of the 8.5- x 14-inch scanned document from my HP printer/scanner as an 8.5- x 14-inch image in Reader?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Note:  My OS is Windows 7, and there are no error messages when I perform the scan.
