1. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
R_Kelly Jan 2, 2012 3:33 PM (in response to bkoopers)If you have a save as step in the action, you should disable that step before using the image processor or you'll get to sets of images as you did.

Paul Riggott Jan 2, 2012 3:37 PM (in response to bkoopers)You can do all this in Bridge. Use "Save to Hard Drive" in the Export panel. Don't use fullsize as that will take a lot longer.

The Action has two steps: "Fit Image" and "Export". The "Export" steps saves the image at 24% quality. If I left the "Export" step out, I would not get the 24% quality file I need. I would to get rid of Bridge's JPG folder, not Photoshop's "Export" function.

What do you mean by "Use "Save to Hard Drive" in the Export panel"?
Since I did not know what you meant, I tried this:
In Bridge, I selected "File-Export To-Hard Drive" and then “Tools-Photoshop-Image Processor” but I get the same results with the unwanted JPG folder of larger files.

bkoopers Jan 2, 2012 4:33 PM (in response to bkoopers)In Bridge, I tried again to select "File-Export To-Hard Drive" and this time the export window opened and I set it to size to 800 with the lowest quality ("1") and ran it but it created a set of files that are even larger than the files in the previous JPG folder (that the "Image Processor" creates) (which is still larger than the files created by the "Action").

6. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
R_Kelly Jan 2, 2012 6:02 PM (in response to bkoopers)Ok your using save for web as a step in the action, which probably won't work with the image processor.
You can use Tools>Photoshop>Batch (kinda of confusing how to set up properly) or you might try this script which will do everything without an action.
picture processor

The export from bridge should also work.

7. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
R_Kelly Jan 2, 2012 6:45 PM (in response to bkoopers)If you want to use Tools>Photoshop>Batch, you need a close no save step at the end of your action and in the batch dialog under Destination choose None.
The files are saved to the folder you saved too during the recording of the save for web step in the action. (i left the save for web (export) step collapsed in the
screenshot because it's to long for a small screenshot)

My Action uses "Save for Web" and it does work correctly using "Image Processor". The only problem is the extra set of files created in the JPG sub-folder that I would like to prevent.
I tried the "Bridge Processor" from the link you provided (it is not called "picture processor"). Although it is lightning fast, it does not preserve the orientation (the portrait orientation images come out 90 degrees CCW) and the compression quality is poor. The image quality is not as good as "Save for Web" for the same file size.

How do I insert the "close no save step" at the end of my action?

10. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
R_Kelly Jan 2, 2012 7:23 PM (in response to bkoopers)There is a bridge processor on that page, but there is also an image processor listed under the PSCS Scripts section.
Even though you can use the action with the image processor, since you have to check one of the save options in the script dialog, i'm
not aware of a way to prevent two sets of files from being saved when you have an export step in the action.
Anyway if you use the batch command under Tools>Photoshop>Batch there is no need for any extra scripts to be installed.
To insert a Close No Save step at the end of the action, open any file and make a change to it, then in the actions panel click on the export step, press the record button, go to
File>Close and in the dialog that pops up choose No. That should add the Close Saving: no step to your action.

I downloaded the "Picture Processor", put it in the Bridge "Scripts" folder, restarted Bridge, accepted the script but did not find "Picture Processor" under "Tools". Where is it supposed to be?
If I use "Tools>Photoshop>Batch" and select the "Action" that way, it opens the first image in "Camera Raw" and just sits there. Here are the options I selected:
I inserted the " Close No Save" step and then used "Image Processor" to run the action. It created the files from the Action but it still created the JPG sub-folder but it created no files in it (an improvement) but it ends by popping up this window:
Is there a way to prevent that pop-up window and to prevent the JPG folder from being created or is that the trade-off of not creating the extra set of files?

12. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
R_Kelly Jan 2, 2012 8:24 PM (in response to bkoopers)For the Batch dialog check the options:
Suppress File Open Options Dialogs (keeps the camera raw dialog from opening)
Suppress Color Profile Warnings (optional)
Under Destination set None (the files are saved to where specified in the save for web (export) step and the close step in the action closes the files.

13. Re: Running Photoshop Action from Bridge on raw files without creating JPG folder
bkoopers Jan 2, 2012 8:55 PM (in response to R_Kelly)I added the "Picture Processor" script to Photoshop. I selected the images in Bridge. I switched to Photoshop and selected "Files-Scripts-Picture Processor", selected the same options that my Action uses and ran it and it worked! It created a set of files that are actually 1K each smaller than my Action created but the quality appears identical ("Save for Web", 24%, sRGB).
I figured out why "Picture Processor" was not appearing in the Bridge menu. I did not realize until just now that there is a Bridge script for "Picture Processor" that is different than the Photoshop script. I downloaded and installed the Bridge version and that works too. It just switches the window to Photoshop and then it is identical in process so it says one step.
I tried using Batch from Bridge using the changes in the setup window you indicated and that worked too.
Thanks for all your help. I now have two ways to do it!
