What color mode and color space is your image?
Could you please post a screenshot with the Layers Panel visible?
Mode is CMYK color
I do not know what color space is.
The color of the image is the one I want for the text. It is C90303. The Jesse E. Morris keeps returning to c82027. I am not an expert in this at all so I'm sure there's just a conflict between something and another. If you could help me to get both items to c90303 I would be grateful.
well theres the problem... you choosing an RGB color and PS needs to convert it to cmyk thus changing the colour.
choose cmyk colours.
How do I do that?
when you open the color picker click in the c m y k boxes and type in values then add to swatches if you want. or pic a color by dragig over the colour picker, if you see a ! next to new colour then that means it is outside of the cmyk gamut.

I found a very, very close match and life is good again. Had a bit of a freakout but am rolling forward again.
Thanks for being there.
Working in CMYK should be a very delibarete decision.
In this case it probably makes sense if you want the text to print as pure black.
A Color Space in the context of working in Photoshop is defined by the icc-profile attached to an image or in the absence of such a one the one set in Edit > Color Settings.
The profile allocates intended color impressions to the RGB- and CMYK-values that would otherwise not be correlated to definitive colors.
