BobLevine Jan 17, 2012 7:53 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)I hate reading stories like this because the obvious answer is always the same…find someone who knows what they’re doing.
And why didn’t you just send a PDF?

P Spier Jan 17, 2012 7:54 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)One should ALWAYS ask the printer what formats they can use.
What did you send them? native files or PDF?

lister110@hotmail.com Jan 17, 2012 8:02 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)I Sent them indesign open files as I thought they may need to edit the files if need be. I suppose a set of HIRES pdf files should have been ok. ..But why would a printer try and open these in illustrator he would need indesign to save them to pdf....
I understand at this stage more information should have been collated, but due to the nature of the job, there was a too many people involved.
thanks..

lister110@hotmail.com Jan 17, 2012 8:33 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)Ok, I know that more information should have been asked in the beginning.., but, the printer must have indesign to open and save these as eps/pdfs, or is there a way to save from indesign to illustrator without indesign?, is there a technical reason a printer should need these in illustrator?
thanks

P Spier Jan 17, 2012 8:37 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)You keep saying that, but there is no evidence at all, at least not from what you've told us so far, that the printer is doing that. Did you send any sort of proof/sample that showed the layout? It really sounds a lot to me like they are trying to rebuild the file in Illustrator using your links.
Have you tried calling them and asking point blank what they are doing, and what you could supply that would work?

lister110@hotmail.com Jan 17, 2012 9:02 AM (in response to P Spier)Ok, it seems they're saving these as PDFs and printing those. Sorry for the dumb post, I should have checked this more thoroughly in the beginning ,
