Adobe In Design is a far cheaper software package compared to Quark express 9. I am asking for some impartial advice as regards which to purchase. I have Dreamweaver CS 5.5 so I dont need the web design feature included in Quark, However I am looking to use the software for design for presenting the same publication on my web site and as printed hardcopy.
I have the design of a publication formatted as Quark 8.5 files and wonder how easy these would be to convert to In design format for both publication on the web and as hardcopy. I shall be using the software not as a professional designer, but as someone who wishes to extend their skills on the computer and have greater input to the presentation of their sculpture work either on the web or in book/ catalogue hardcopy.
InDesign can natively open Quark 3.x and 4.x files. If you need to convert anything late you’ll need to buy Q2ID from Markzware.
Worth every dime, IMO.

What are yo expecting, precisely, in terms of using InDesign to create "a web publication" with? A downloadable PDF, or "the very same high quality document but then in a web browser"?
