1. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Stan Jones Jan 21, 2012 11:47 AM (in response to texber2012)Another user has a green menu (that does not have buttons) only on bluray. Iwonder about color sets, but it still makes no sense.
In any event, create a new project, import the menu you are using (from the current project sources folder), but keep the default color set. What do you see?

2. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 21, 2012 12:10 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks for the input. I followed Stan Jones' suggestion and used the Automatic color set. The background color in this case was black. So, perhaps the Custom Color Set is somehow part of the issue. Any other ideas?

Stan Jones Jan 21, 2012 12:48 PM (in response to texber2012)Is your menu working otherwise? (Buttons appear and work?)
Please post a screenshot of your menu in Photoshop with the layers twirled open.

4. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 21, 2012 3:34 PM (in response to Stan Jones)The menu is working.
I have not posted a screenshot on any forum so far. What is a good size for the screenshot. I saw a recommendation of 600 pixels wide max., but that looked rather small. Please let me know. Thanks.
I played the problem DVD on a different DVD player/ TV combination figuring the problem might be with the playback equipment, but not so. The background is still green.
Thanks for your help.

5. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Stan Jones Jan 21, 2012 3:42 PM (in response to texber2012)I do the screenshot (1920x1080 monitor), crop as needed in photoshop, save as jpg. Usually whatever size it is, is fine. The forum, I think, resizes a bit. I think don't downsize it; I often open in another window and blow it up to see detail.

7. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Stan Jones Jan 21, 2012 7:06 PM (in response to texber2012)Sorry, I'm looking for the actual menu (e.g. using "edit in photoshop") so the layers will have the "(+)" for a button group and the "=1" for a highlight layer etc.

9. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Stan Jones Jan 22, 2012 5:37 AM (in response to texber2012)Bring an Encore template menu into Encore. Then "edit in photoshop." Look at the layer at the bottom. It will bge callede "Background" and locked. Encore does odd things when you don't have that layer. Just select your bottom layer, and on the menu select Layer -> New -> Background From Layer. It will rename that layer "Background" and lock it.
Try that see if it makes a difference.
I am assuming you have an image in that layer that covers the whole menu. If not, that may be the problem.

10. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 22, 2012 11:42 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks again for your input. Unfortunately the problem is not resolved. The background layer does cover the whole menu.

11. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Bill Hunt Jan 22, 2012 1:47 PM (in response to texber2012)The Color Set should ONLY affect the various States of the Buttons on a Menu, and should NOT affect the Background in any way.
Per Stanley's suggestion, can you Open that Menu with Edit in Photoshop, and then with the Layers Palette open, do a screen-cap. For some details on creating and posting a screen-cap to this forum, this ARTICLE will give you one workflow.
Good luck,
Hunt

12. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 22, 2012 2:13 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)As noted in the original post I am using a custom Menu Color Set. The Normal Group color was green. I eliminated all the Normal Group colors (set opacity=0%) and now the menu background is black as it should be. Go figure. This is a temporary fix. I will try the screen-cap later, it is time for some football now.
Thanks to Stan Jones and Bill Hunt for their help.

13. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Bill Hunt Jan 23, 2012 11:03 AM (in response to texber2012)Sorry for the confusion. What I am saying is that the Menu Color Set, should ONLY affect the display of the states of the Buttons, i.e. their Sub-picture Highlight display, and should not affect the Background of the Menu, regardless of whether the Menu Color Set is Custom, or not. The Background should not have any change, except for where the Sub-picture Highlights display above it.
I think that the screen-cap from PS w/ the Buttons' Layer Sets open, will likely point to the where the problem lies.
Good luck,
Hunt

14. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 27, 2012 8:05 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I need some help here. How is a screen-cap different from the displays shown in January 21 & 22 posts?
Also, I'm having a lot of trouble getting the "reply" button to show. I searched this forum, there are some questions about this problem, but no solution given. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

15. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Stan Jones Jan 28, 2012 2:44 AM (in response to texber2012)They appear to be screenshots. Did you have a particular question or issue about them?
As long as you are signed in, you should see "reply." The only time I don't see reply, is because I have switched computers and am not signed in. At various times in the past, some users were not staying signed in, but I haven't heard of that for a bit.
At one point, and it may still be the same, you could sign into the forums, and not be signed into your adobe account. The adobe account was at the very top on the right; the forums were on the left below the forum banner.

16. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
Bill Hunt Jan 28, 2012 3:22 PM (in response to texber2012)Oops, my mistake. Got distracted, and the request for screen-caps should have been in another thread - my bad.
Now, it looks like your Sub-picture Highlights are all =1. Is that correct?
Looking at the Menu, it appears that there is Button overlap. In Encore, with the Menu in the Menu Editor, if you choose Select All (Ctrl+A), do the Buttons' Bounding Boxes overlap?
That should not cause any issue with the colors though.
I assume that the diagonally rainbow-stripped image that we see is the Background, and the lowest Layer in the Menu. Is that correct?
Good luck,
Hunt

17. Re: Menu Backgrounds on TV Playback
texber2012 Jan 31, 2012 12:07 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)The Sub-picture Highlights are all =1, the buttons do not overlap, and the rainbow image (Background) is the lowest layer.
Thanks for the input re "reply," it is still rather sporadic no matter were I am logged in.
I am working on another project, will post if the menu background issue is or is not a problem. Perhaps the current problem is just an anomaly.
Thanks for your help,
