    PE 8 Burn errors

    videowrk

I have a project that I can not get to burn.  The project will burn as mpg with no menus but I can not burn the project to a disc or a folder.  I get a Device Error:  the target device isn't suitable for use. When I cancel burn then Adobe sometimes hangs and I have to force shut down of Adobe because it is not responding.  I did save this project as AVI, pulled it into a new project, created markers and menu again, that didn't help.  Any ideas?

These messages are about Encore... but that is still an Adobe product, so the IDEAS here may help, even if not the exact steps

As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

Have you put a Stop marker at the very end of your timeline? If so delete it - PRE automatically considers the end of the timeline a 'Stop' and adding one manually can trip up PRE during the Share phase.

Have you any Packet writing disk software installed (eg. Nero inCD, Roxio Drag To Disk, Roxio Direct CD) ? If so uninstall those components. John's links above will give you more detail about these products and why they can stop PRE working.

Was that using Share> Computer> AVI ? What was your project setting for the new project to which you added the AVI file ?

Also, for the Burn to Folder, how much defragmented, free-space do you have on your HDD's, and especially the destination HDD with that folder, to which you are attempting to burn?

              Good luck,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.  I changed file name, took out stop menu. It burned to folder.  I downloaded imgburn, project burned to DVD just great! I was through the ringer on this one, had compatability issues with disc's and resolved that with burner mfg in finding compatible disc to burner.  Adobe was beating me up with all the different errors, program hanging, sometimes burn, sometimes not, and often burned dvd had skips.  It has been a long haul, but I think we got it.  Thanks again.

When a burned DVD-Video skips, or hangs, the most common problem is the brand of blank disc used. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, with some suggestions for brands to use. Also, see this ARTICLE for some discussion on burning DVD-Videos for playback on set-top players.

                  Good luck,

PE can alos give problems if your burner is capable of writing at speeds faster than the blank is capablew of.

Thats why Imgburn and some other burning programs are better for burning because you can set your burner speed to the same (or slower) than the blank disk spec.

Better to burn at one half the blank disk speed because some players may not be able to read it if the "tracks" are not burnt "deep enough".

Pleased to hear the stop marker deletion fixed your issue. For blank media I always use Verbatim printables myself, both Single and Dual Layer. Rarely get a problem. I also only ever burn at x4.

                      Cheers,
