    Seperate scenes into different files

    Michael _in_Hamm Level 1

      Dear all,

I am a newcomer in video and therfore I am missing the right words to search inside the forum.

I am struggling the following problem:

All my videos are on DV-cassettes I now want to "copy" to my computer.

I do NOT want to have one huge 10GByte-file from every cassette. But I want to have all the scenes seperated into different files.

Is there a chance to have this done by PE10, hopefully mostly automatically.

      Thanks for your support.

      Michael

If it shall be of importance:

The Software is installed on a Win XP SP3 systhem, supporting Firewire.

PRE can import by timecode-based or content-based capture which will do what you want.

Note though that PRE can be a bit over-responsive to minor tape glitches, causing it to stop the import process. Because of this many prefer to use one of  Scenalyzer (commercial product) WinDV (freeware) or Exsate DV Capture Live (freeware).

          Cheers,

Many users feel that ScenAlyzer is the Capture module that Adobe should have used for PrE and PrPro. Its Scene Detect seems much better, and offers more control.

              Dear Neale,

              thanks for your response.

Yes I saw that PRE can seperate different scenes by timecode or content.

Maybe I was not clear enough:

What I see on my Explorer is

file A (including scene 1, scene 2, scene 3, etc)

              What I want to see:

              file A (including scene 1)

              file B (including scene 2)

              file B (including scene 3)

Can PRE manage this and if yes, please let me know how this works.

              Thanks again for your support.

Not automatically. You would need to use the Work Area Bar after import to save each scene to a new file, one scene at a time. And finally then delete the original file. To create multiple files during the capture you would need to use one of the alternatives I listed earlier.

                Cheers,

                  Dear all,

please find what I found out since the last post:

Yes PRE seperates the files by using the timecode (and it does so while capturing), but it does not successes to seperate every scene.

Capturing content-based, it first stores the entire DV on the HDD. The following search for scenes found every scene but took three times the length of the DV.

Exsate DV capturing Live was a bit better the PRE using timecode, but it was also not perfect.

After roughly 14 minutes it stopped capturing asking to register. But neither on the homepage nor anywhere else I found a chance to do so. I have now posted this to Exsate waiting for their response.

Making my first summary, I have the impression, that PRE can become my first choice, because it offers the best compromise. I will focus on capturing with timecode and if it shall become necessary I can analyse more deeper by content.

Thanks so for to all who supported me.

Feel free to add any comment.

                  Michael

That shouldn't happen. The software is completely free to use for capturing unlimited lengths. They do sell a commercial product "Exsate Video Express" so perhaps you downloaded the wrong product.
