Mask and Vectors under the mask

Is there a way in Illustrator CS5 to get rid of all the vectors under a clipping mask, so that only those vectors visible on the screen exist in the .ai file? I thought the Crop tool would do it but not so. All the pathfinder tools are for objects. I use lines drawings only. Sometimes a multitude of vectors extend beyond my artboard and I don't want to cut them individually. If anyone knows, please help me out.
