This might not be a problem with Adobe Reader itself but might be related to Windows.
One suggestion would be to think back to when the problem first started occuring and then try rolling back Windows to a date before that time using System Restore.
Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
As you are running Windows 7 you could also potentially use Reliability Monitor to see any changes you have made to your PC since the problem started occurring.
I think it started happening when I upgraded to Reader X 10.1.2. After multiple attempts to get it to work, I have uninstalled 10.1.2 and gone back to 9.5. That is the only solution that I could get to work reasonably well.
I will check out the Reliability Monitor.
Could you please try launching Reader 10.1.2 with your antivirus software temporarily disabled and see if it solves the problem.
Also, you could have a look at the below mentioned page and see if any of the programs listed there may be present on your system.
