Need help reading the info from GSpot...

    davidbeisner2010 Level 3

I've got an uncompressed .mov file that someone exported from FCP (not sure which version) for me to put a new music bed on and upload to our website. I attempted to import it PrPro, but it failed to import and gave me an unknown codec error. I opened the file in GSpot and got the below screenshot, which I don't really know how to read properly. I also tried repackaging the file using MPEG Streamclip, but got a file with audio and no video... Help?

          David,

You might get more useful info from MediaInfo, than G-Spot, with that/those file(s).

I also find that the Properties utility in QT Pro (Ctrl+J), does better with MOV files.

          Good luck,

Ah, an Apple Intermediate CODEC. Perhaps this ARTICLE will give you some tips?

              Good luck,

Thanks, Bill... I'll have to take the file over to our Mac lab and work on it there... I wonder if PrPro on the Mac will open it? We'll find out!

                  David,

That is a good question, and I cannot answer it. Not sure if that CODEC can be used by PrPro, on a Mac. I'd see if one of your Macs has it (might ONLY work in FCP?), and give it a try. Might have to go back to FCP and be Saved with some other CODEC.

Please report what you find in the Mac lab, as I will certainly learn something.

                  Good luck,

FYI, PrPro did read the file just fine on the Mac… exported out using a

cross-platform codec, so I’ve got a version I can work with on my PC.

                    Thanks for the help!
