Quadro 2000 or GTX 580 for best performance?

    klp29

We have a MacPro with nVidia Quadro 4000 and it's just perfect for our needs.

Now we're getting Win7 PC and we have two choices of graphic cards (same price):

           - Quadro 2000

           - GTX 580

I'm not that much into hardware but it seems to me, that although Quadro seems to be targeted at pro graphics segment, it only has 192 cuda cores, where as the 580 has 512 cuda cores - and the 4000 only has 256 cuda cores....... so that got me confused

Which one is the better for Premiere pro on our new PC: Quadro 2000 or GTX 580 ?

No doubt at all the GTX 580, cores are king!  If this is not a panic buy the Internet rumor mill has nVidia releasing a new GTX680 in February with 1000 cores.  Here are some PPBM5.5 scores from my collection of boards, even better scores with 32 GB.

I concur with Bill. Definitely the GTX 580. The Quadro 2000 is overpriced and underperforming.

I concur with both Bill and Harm. As far as Premiere Pro CS5.5 is concerned, the Quadro 2000 is little more than a slightly underclocked GeForce GTS 450 - and it is only available with 1GB of VRAM for such a high price. The Quadro 2000 would perform slower than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in Bill's chart - well over 150 seconds in the HD-to-SD MPEG-2 DVD encoding portion of the PPBM5 benchmarks (the GTX 550 Ti achieved a result of 146 seconds on that same MPEG-2 test). Both the Quadro 2000 and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti have 192 CUDA cores and use GDDR5 VRAM - but the Quadro 2000 has only a 128-bit memory bus versus 192-bit for the GTX 550 Ti.
