1. Re: Missing Plugins
Peter Spier Jan 30, 2012 2:15 PM (in response to rolandk43)CS5.5 files are not backward compatible to earlier versions (including CS5). You can export .idml from CS5.5 that will open in CS5 or CS4, but there is no way to make a file that will open in CS3 withuopt passing through CS4 and exporting to .inx there. If you've overwritten your CS3 versions you are out of luck.

2. Re: Missing Plugins
BobLevine Jan 30, 2012 2:16 PM (in response to rolandk43)You cannot open a CS5.5 file in CS3 and if you don’t have CS4 you’re SOL.
If you do then you need to export to IDML from CS5.5 open that in CS4 and export to INX to open in CS3.
Don’t expect miracles.

3. Re: Missing Plugins
rolandk43 Jan 30, 2012 2:27 PM (in response to Peter Spier)Thank you for replying. What I meant was once I open a CS3 file, in CS3 on the CPU that has CS5.5 installed, that file then asks for those plugins when moved to a cpu with only CS3 installed, even if the CS5.5 was never opened on the other one.

4. Re: Missing Plugins
Peter Spier Jan 30, 2012 2:30 PM (in response to rolandk43)That means the file was saved in CS5.5 at some point. It is now a CS5.5 file and connot be opened in CS3.

5. Re: Missing Plugins
BobLevine Jan 30, 2012 2:34 PM (in response to rolandk43)I’m sorry, but all evidence points to those files having been opened and saved in CS5.5.
If you’d like to email one to me, I’ll be happy to take a look here to confirm that.

6. Re: Missing Plugins
rolandk43 Jan 30, 2012 3:14 PM (in response to Peter Spier)I may have found the problem. I highlighted a CS3 file and went to get information, and it is set to open with CS5.5. Then I started looking at other CS3 files and they all said the same thing. Apparently when I installed CS5.5 it became the new choice for opening all InDesign files. At least that is how it looks to me.

7. Re: Missing Plugins
Peter Spier Jan 30, 2012 3:18 PM (in response to rolandk43)Yup. That's what happens. last version installed becomes the default.
Rorohiko.com sells a utility called Soxy that will open ID files in the version from which they were saved.

8. Re: Missing Plugins
BobLevine Jan 30, 2012 4:05 PM (in response to Peter Spier)But that won’t change the fact that all of those files have been saved in CS5.5.
