    Playback/Scrubbing barely works

Hey.  In Encore CS5, I cannot get anything close to realtime playback or get the monitor tab to update in a reasonable amount of time.  I don't think it was always this bad, but on the latest blu-ray project, simply adding accurate chapter markers was a chore.  It's an 8-core MacPro with nothing else running, so there is no way it can't handle this.

The disc elements are all blu-ray compliant within Encore.  I have tried with them being on the San Drives and on the local drive, but that didn't help any.

I usually have the monitor view set to 50% as opposed to Fit.  100% view does not help.

      In the Preferences:

      Playback Quality: Draft

Audio + Video Outs: Built-in Line + None

      Media Cache: Cleaned

I know that in a previous project, I had a similar 80+ minute blu-ray compliant file that I could easily scrub through and modify chapter markers.  I have used the source file's TC to get me close with the chapter points, but the Project Preview really struggles and doesn't get through all the markers.  The disc is fine when its burned.

Any suggestions on how to make the playback in Encore any better?

      Thanks.

Test a new project, if okay, it does not rule out the lengthof your project, but if not okay, it suggests either a corrupt project or that length does not matter. I'm not on my regular ocmputer, and do not have th wlink. There is a troubleshooting knowledge base file for Mac; not sure if it was for Encore corrupt project, or setup generally.

Hey Stan.  I have tried starting several new projects from scratch, with only marginal improvements.  It's amazing how often that does help though.

The problem may be due to the duration of the video file.  I brought in a 5 minute clip, a 21 minute clip, along with the 82.  All files are blu-ray compliant within Encore.  It seemed to get progressively worse dragging the CTI around the 3 different duration timelines and marking chapter points, even when cleaning the media cache in-between.

5 min: no problems dragging around and stepping frame by frame with the arrow keys.

21 min: small delays waiting for monitor tab's viewer to update but still able to step frame by frame.  Short delays between pressing * for a new chapter point, and when it actually shows up.

82 min: starts out only slightly worse than 21 min timeline, but quickly becomes unusable.  Long delays between moving CTI and getting an updated picture.  Intermittent ability to step between frames.

I tried a new project in basically an identical suite, and got only slightly better results.  No disc simulation has been able to skip ahead more than 2 chapters, or been able to play anthing after the opening of the disc.
