What happens if you restore the default AE preferences?
Unforunately, those are the defaults. I haven't changed anything (except the workspace) since we installed.
I should clarify, it was a new install on a new machine, not an upgrade.
The only resolutions I know that are lower field first are 720x480 and 720x486. In PAL Land, 720x576 can be either. With very few and very expensive exceptions, almost all 1080 shot in progressive is actually recorded as upper field first.
Since we don't know the resolution of the footage, it's still a toss-up whether it's an AE error.
It's NTSC SD footage - 720x486.
Yup, now it's confirmed: an interpretation problem. You may not have readjusted AE preferences, but it still smells like bad AE preferences. I would either restore the default or trash preferences entirely. I hope it works for you.
Well, I tried resetting the prefs - same problem.
So I went in and deleted them - same problem.
Appreciate the suggestions though.
It's not a HUGE issue, but an annoyance for sure since it's only happening since the new version.
If I export from AVID other ways (using Animation or Meridien codecs), AE doesn't even try to guess the interpretation, so it's almost the same difference where I have to set it anyway.
Sorry to hear you're stuck. That's weird.
Here's one thing that WILL work: you can change the footage interpretation settings in the text file used for AE Preferences.
Like you -- previous to this incident for you, of course -- I've never had to fool with that text file, so I never learned how to do it. Perhaps the one of the REAL AE power users will chime in with an answer.
