Hi, I've been looking for an ID feature that works similar to Illustrator's symbols. Changes I make to an object in a symbol library (via Update Library Item) don't affect all the other 'instances' of that object in my document... I assume because they aren't actually 'instances' like symbols are in Illustrator.
I can think of one way to accomplish what I need: re-create the graphic 'object' in Illustrator and Place it as a Linked File... then if I want to make edits go back to Illustrator, edti, save, and watch changes propagate through the ID document. The symbol concept is so much easier though and I hope I'm missing a feature in ID!
You’re not missing anything. That’s the way it is.
Hmmm, that's ugly. Alright thanks Bob.
So I have since seen 'Snippets'... sounds like another variation of the linked file way of doing things. Is there a reason to use one or the other... snippet vs. placed file?
Depends on the snippet. If it’s a link to a file the result will be the same, but you can’t link to a snippet.
