Why am I getting this error?

I'm getting the error: "Error 32: Could not resolve <mx:LinkButton> to a component implementation." in the following code

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo"
creationComplete = "initApp()">

<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import BezComponents.Bezier;
import flash.display.Stage

public var bezierPointsValue:uint = 100;
public var bezierDegreeValue:uint = 3;
public var numBeziersValue:uint = 2;
public var showBezCompositionValue:Boolean = false;
public var bezBindingValue:Boolean = true;
public var theBezier:Bezier = new Bezier(600, 600, numBeziersValue, bezierDegreeValue, bezierPointsValue);

public function initApp():void
{
bezContainer.addChild(theBezier);
}
]]>
</fx:Script>

<fx:Declarations>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
<!-- This is the container for sprite assests in Flex (needed to show Bezier) -->
<s:SpriteVisualElement id="bezContainer" />
<mx:LinkButton label="link1"/>
</s:Application>

note that when I remove the line "<mx:LinkButton label="link1"/> " all of the code runs fine (including the code for the Bezier class, which is pure as3)
