I can't get Premiere Elements to recognize input from my Canon digital camcorder as a HDV device. It works as a DV Camcorder device. I record on HDV settings (1080i, 30 fps) and choose the initial Project Settings as NTSC-HDV-HDV-1080i 30 (HDV-1080i 30 preset), and I use IEEE1394 Firewire. The message that shows: No HDV camera detected. Please check .............
Yes, I do have the camcorder turned on and set to play back and the firewire plugged in. Is DV Device the only input that used firewire? Does HDV Device require a different computer port - HDMI, or something? Do I need to upload a specific device driver for the Canon XH A1s since it is not listed on Preferences>Device Control>Options>Device Type?
Any chance you'd consider using professional software with that camcorder? This tends to happen regularly when people try to edit video from a $3500 camcorder on this $75 program.
Specs-wise, it probably should work. It just usually doesn't.
I'd recommend you first download the free trial of Premiere CS5 and see if the camcorder interfaces with it. That will tell you if it's the program or your connection that's falling short.
From what you have mentioned, looks like you are doing everything correctly. I'd suggest you to check one more thing : When your device is in the Play mode, does it show DV or HDV on the screen? HDV camera have the ability to record and playback, both in HDV and DV mode. So just check if the camera is set to HDV in the Play Mode.
