You are applying the effect in ID, not Illustrator?
What settings are you using to export the PDF?
And waht application are you using to view the PDF.
yes the effects are indesign and preview AND adobe acrobat both look the same the document is ugly
i used highest quality print and didnt touch anything else...
if i set it to pdf/x-1a its a little better but there are boxes around some elements...
Could be the view settings in the reader....
It's a simple object... do a test... remake it in ID and apply the same FX and see how that comes out.

How smooth it looks depends on transparency flattening settings and which version of PDF you are exporting and how the settings in your PDF viewer are. For best results use either Acrobat or Rader, not Apple Preview or Ghostviewer or …
