1. Re: Problem With Image View After Cropping
Noel Carboni Feb 14, 2012 12:23 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)What video card do you have?
Generally speaking, it's a good idea to visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install their latest display driver for your hardware and OS.
Exception: ATI's latest Catalyst driver suite, 12.1, is faulty when it comes to using it with Photoshop. Assuming something newer than 12.1 hasn't been released, it's better to go back and get 11.7.-Noel

Trevor.Dennis Feb 14, 2012 12:38 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)It looks like you need to uncheck OpenGL in the Performance tab of Preferences
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4148076
Or try installing the graphics card drivers again.

Vicki Tarpey Feb 14, 2012 1:09 PM (in response to Trevor.Dennis)Wow Trevor,
I am not sure what the “unchecked OpenGL” has changed, but since unchecking it, I have not been able to recreate the issue. Because it was an intermittent problem, it may be too early to be sure, but I think you may have solved my problem.
I will re-post if it happens again, but for now,
A very big THANK YOU

5. Re: Problem With Image View After Cropping
Noel Carboni Feb 14, 2012 1:12 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)Unchecking that OpenGL Drawing setting is a workaround that comes with a loss of functionality. You really have display driver problems.
When you say your drivers are updated, to what version? You saw where I mentioned Catalyst 12.1 is faulty, right?
If you have 12.1, you need to download 11.7, then uninstall 12.1 and install 11.7.

Vicki Tarpey Feb 14, 2012 1:34 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)Hi Noel,
It was another poster who mentioned Catalyst 12.1
I have a AMD Radeon HD 6450 video card with Driver Version - 8.863.0.0

Trevor.Dennis Feb 14, 2012 1:41 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)yes, you'll have lost the nice brush size widget, and flick panning gizmo. There's an autodetect for card and driver about somewhere...

This will show what you have turned off with OpenGL

Noel Carboni Feb 14, 2012 1:47 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)No, it was me. Feel free to review the thread history at this URL if you'd like: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4206899
Your display driver IS out of date. You really don't want the one from Microsoft's WHQL
If you would like to be able to use the OpenGL-specific features, listed on the page below, as well as not have display corruption, I recommend you update SPECIFICALLY to Catalyst 11.7 (which carries driver version 8.872). Anything up to 11.12 is probably okay, but 12.1 has some very specific problems with Photoshop. Several of us on the forum here have had particularly good, solid results from 11.7.

9. Re: Problem With Image View After Cropping
Vicki Tarpey Feb 14, 2012 2:08 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)OK, I downloaded and install the AMD Catalyst Display Driver 11.7 I then reactivated the OpenGL Drawing and tested again. The problem has not reoccurred.
Again this was an intermittent problem, so I will re-post if it happens again.
But for now, Thank you Both for all you help (and patience)

Noel Carboni Feb 14, 2012 2:27 PM (in response to Vicki Tarpey)You're welcome. I hope that truly solves the issue you were seeing. I certainly have no current problems with my ATI setup, using 11.7.

Trevor.Dennis Feb 14, 2012 2:34 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)I bet a lot of folk here remember all the graphics card problems that followed the release of CS4. I think the broken Brush size indicator was the most prevalent. it was huge and the forums were full of people with the problem. I know because I was one of them
