I've got the exact same problem using CS5.5 in a Windows 7 environment. Called tech support since I am supposed to have 4 incidents as part of the purchase, but was told in barely understandable English that I'd have to pay for the answer. Looks like I'm going back to CS3; at least that version saves documents. I'll watch the thread to see if anybody knows the solution.
UPDATE: Deleted the InDesign Defaults and InDesign SaveData files and this did not correct the problem.
Yes I have replaced the preferences with no result.
I have created a new user account and when i tried it from there it seems to work fine.
Not sure what to do now and no idea where to start.
Any suggestions anyone?
I had the same problem yesterday but this was as a result of trying to update video drivers (Windows XP). I reinstalled original drivers from disk & problem has gone away.
go back to Replace Your Preferences to get the paths to the folders in your user library, then try moving the entire folders to the desktop and restart ID.
If it's still not working, John Hawkinson has mentioned some other files that seem to be involved when it works in one user and not another, but you'd have to do a search here as I don't know the names and locations for all of them (I'm on Windows). I think he's suggested these at least twice in the last month or so, so they should come up.
Tried again by reinstalling once more and removed the preferences folder
entirely onto the desktop. Lo & Behold it works again
Thanks for all your help
Glad you got it working. If yo have occasion to reply by email again, make sure you remove your personal information.
I have this problem too, although I haven't changed anything recently, all the sudden today InDesign stopped letting me Save or Save As.
I even tried new blank pages, and it still won't save it, it gives me a strange error with a long number.
I deleted my Preferences like you suggested, but that still didn't work!
Please help, this is my job & I can't use my program, that sucks!
Did you try the further steps that were suggested?
I've had this problem recently on my Mac. I have resolved the problem several times by just shutting down the computer and rebooting. I had exported the files before shutdown as Indesign Markup Files at the recommendation of another forum. But everytime when I reopen InDesign after the reboot, the files that I could not save before are there and at that point, the Save and Save As options are back.
