Can you recover the presets from a backup? I have no idea where they live on Mac, but they would have been inthe All Users profile in Windows.
In any case, lack of a preset should not preclude exporting using any settings you like -- just make the changes you need in the export dialog, and you can save those settings as new presets (which will be available to you, but not others, unless you export them).
They weren't presets that i had made. They were presets that come standard with InDesign when exporting a PDF. I don't know what the settings for a PDF/X-1a:2011 because it was automatically given to me by InDesign or else i would just recreate. When going to file - export and then choosing Adobe PDF - Print from the Save As file type the dialogue box pops up for the PDF settings. Under Adobe PDF Preset at the top, the only option listed is Smallest File Size.
Not sure how to recover presets from a backup. Can you elaborate more there?
You can start with wahtever preset is avialable. From the dropdown for standards, pick PDF/X-1a and most of the seetings will chang automatically for you, but you still need to go to the Compression screen and make sure the color and grayscale sownsample values are set to 300 and the the image quailty is set to Maximum, and set lineart compression to 1200, then go to the Advanced screen and set the transparency flattener resolution to [High Resolution].
Do you make backups of your computer on a regular basis? On mac that would probably be Time Machine, on windows either Windows backup or a third-party program. If you do, you ought to be able to find your old presets on the backup file and restore them.
Thanks Peter - any idea what could have happened to my presets just disappearing like that? I'm sure my computer is backed up (it's a company computer) but i'm not sure if i have access to the backup files/am able to restore to an earlier version of my computer. I'm running windows 7.
I have no idea why they would have disappeared. You should check with your IT department about getting them restored from backup.
was able to save them from another computer and load them onto mine.
thanks for your help.
