    Best intermediate codec with AME

My video camera records vidoes in 1080 60p and uses AVCHD as the video codec and MTS as the file container.

Now I found that the videos playback slow in Premiere Pro (the playback lags and is choppy) and makes my CPU usage 100%.  I read that this is because AVCHD is a very highly compressed codec and so it is very CPU intensive.  I found out that Adobe made the Mercury playback engine to fix this problem but unfortunately it only works with nVidia cards and I have an ATI graphics card.

So I found that without an nVidia graphics card, the best way around this problem is to convert your AVCHD footage to an intermediate codec before importing the videos into PP.  So I want to know what the best intermediate codec and settings for that codec are in Adobe Media Encoder.  Or should use some other program?
