Neither can I.
Don't think Bridge supports mxf thumbnails or preview.
Bridge only has access to a relatively small set of codecs for video previews.
Why is this? A big part of your marketing on premiere was the integration of the XF300 ? It makes bridge a pretty useless part of the suite along with On Location.?
I dont believe On Location is a part of the suite anymore.
I have not tried on 5.5, but on CS6 bridge does support MXF - at least my Canon XF format.
After some digging, I could find that in Mac, the Canon XF MPEG2 decoder based on QuickTime (the XFMpeg2Dec.component v126.96.36.199) would be the decoder used by Bridge for thumbnails and preview, but it is not working. My current understanding is that the decoder (included in Canon XF Utility v1.3 and v1.4) is be based in QT7 framework and QTX (default in OSX 10.11.x) for some reason cannot load/use it.
On further investigation, I managed to use the decoder AppleMXFImport.component (part of Apple ProVideo Format package v2.0.4) to get Bridge to build the thumbnails of my Canon XF files, but this decoder is only meant to import MXF files to FCP as MOV, so Apple (I believe) did not implement components needed by Bridge for preview the files.
During the investigation, I also found that Canon XF Utility was upgraded to version v3.1, so I thought the decoder was also updated, but to my surprise, no QT decoder is installed this time. Looking inside the Canon XF Utility installation package, does not reveal any decoder, neither after installed. Googling for comments on v3.1 has not return any hint of why Canon did not include the decoder.
At this point of the investigation I have two options, 1) try to find a new QT decoder that can handle Canon XF files -which until now I have not found-, or, 2) drop Adobe Bridge and use the Media Browser of Premiere Pro, which in my opinion does way better job on the preview as you can scrub through your preview by just hovering with your mouse, something that you cannot do in Bridge.
Finally, I don’t understand why Adobe does not use Premiere Pro’s decoders with Bridge, maybe is a licensing issue?; they are the ones that know and we don’t, and it bugs me a lot, because my workflow is erratic when using Bridge to the point that I want to drop it, since I cannot resolve the never ending issues with decoders.
Let’s see if I manage to get Bridge working with MXF files again.
Keep you posted.
