There's a built in built in flex editor that's fully functioning called "RichTextEditor"...
Oh, and if it doesn't do all that's needed you can always extend this class to do the work.
That appears VERY basic. It does not seem to do anything near what FCKEditor does. How does it handle tables, images, hyperlinks, etc?
It does handle hyperlinks without any additional work.
It also handles some formatting.
However, images would have to be stored somewhere and that would be highly dependent on what your server side language is to handle that aspect. You wouldn't necessarily want to allow image uploads without checking the content before it's saved. ..
AS3 is is an OO language which will allow you to extend class/component in Flex. What I would do is extend the current class to allow tables and/or images so you can get a true flash editor in place.
That's a big limitation of TextField (Flash Player).
It use only a subset of html tag, and not tables :-(
No easy way to extend TextField/Label/TextArea.
Flash Player 10 will have lot of improvements for text editing and formating...
You can also look for any other AS3 Flash components/controls and import them into Flex usually. Might not be free, but might handle more of what you need.
Does anyone have any information on how to save text that you enter into the Rich Text Editor to your computer as a TXT file or DOC? I can't seem to find anything on that.
I was looking for flex version of the FCK Editor, unfortantly, I could not find a fully complete solution, but I found the following which might help you:
Has anyone already found a flex version of the FCK Editor?
Is there a Rich Text Editor like the FCK Editor available?
