I have an image that has:-
(pixel dimensions: width = 2048, height = 1440) and document size (width = 17.34cm, height = 12.19cm) resolution; 300 pixels/inch
When I export from indesign CS5.5 - it comes up as 100ppi in "preflight"????
I am exporting as [press Quality] with Transparency Flattener on High Resolution and no down-sampling in "compression".
What am I doing or not understanding?
Oh your too wonderful, didn't even think to look at that - yes it's "118 ppi" - only way to alter is making a really huge TIFF? This will make for a pixelated image though!
No matter what you do you will not get the image looking perfect if you increase the original size. If you are using this image as a background to a page, you can get away with a lower resolution as it's not the main focus of the page. 300ppi is a kind of guideline. You can print at lower resolutions but you will get poorer results and in some cases, very different results to what you expected.
