I have a textbook that approximately 700 pages long. 98% of it is 2 columns (if that matters). I have about 600 sections that need the title attached to the first paragraph. I'm trying to avoid orphaned section titles and large white space at the end of chapters and sections left on a single page. After I go in and apply my non-breaking spaces and such to keep the titles and the paragraphs together, is there a way to automatically set the leading and tracking for each page so that it adjusts to fill the entire page without leaving a bunch of white space?
I think the closest thing you'll find to an automatic solution is to set the text frame options for vertical alignment to Justified, but that's a bad choice, in my opinion.
I think the only realistic approach is to solve this with scripting.
You could ask in the scripting forum for assistance.
But that would be difficult for someone to do for you without an extremely specific set of instructions of exactly what process to follow in terms of changing tracking.
Changing leading? I would try extremely hard to avoid that if you are in columns. I guess it depends on whether baseline grid alignment is a problem (due to text wraps and other floating items)...
