Is there an equivalent to a click event for a DataGridColumn?

I wanted to call a function when a certain column was clicked in a DataGrid. However, Flex's autocomplete seems to show that there are only two events available for a DataGridColumn: activate and deactivate. There was no event called "click" or anything similar listed.

I know that clicking a column calls the sort function on that column, so is there anything that can be done with that? What I essentially want to do is everytime a column is clicked, I want a global variable (call it "clickedColumn") to change to the ID of the column that was clicked.

Is there a "this.id" property by the way that I can use; it would make my life a little more convenient also.
