    Video Gets choppy when Editing

I have a Macbook Pro i7 Quadcore 2GHZ 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256MB graphics card, 500GB HDD, and it is running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2

I am new to Mac and to Adobe Premiere Elements 10. I am trying to edit a movie, and when the movie is untouched (without anything edited), it will play just fine, but once I try to edit it, such as adding text into the video, inserting the pre-made "3D Motions", "Disolve", or any of those the video will freeze for a second when it gets to the edited part then the audio is completely off for a few seconds then the video goes back to norm

Does anyone know how to fix these issues?
