Why does the ACR work differently from the one PS CS5?  In ACR one must select area and in PS CS5 one can click on the rd eye itself.

How can we get ACR to work like PS CS5?

You can't. They simply work differently. It's not really that hard to click and drag a box though, is it?

I would expect Adobe to make things consistent within it's software.  I'm sure ACR knows it is outputing to CS PS so there is no reason to have them different.

ACR does a lot of stuff differently from Photoshop. That's to be expected...they're entirely different code bases and ACR is a plug-in while Photoshop is, well the host app. Two different engineering teams as well.
