When I try to use the spell check or set the language in a paragraph style, English:US always appears in parentheses and spell check won't catch anything. This isn't a new install of the program, and the problem first started two months ago.
I've tried wiping the preferences and making sure the language was set correctly in the text boxes and paragraph styles (English:US is selected, but it's in parentheses) multiple times. So far nothing has worked.
I'm using InDesign CS 5 on an Apple computer.
Is there a way to restore the dictionary so spell check will work?
It sounds like the dictionary file itself is missing or perhaps corrupt. I don't have any good ideas for resoring that other than a reinstall (a "repair" from the installer might be sufficient).
I am having the same problem. It helped to shut down and restart InDesign. I leave documents up all the time and this maybe my problem. So try that if you haven't already fix the problem.
I have the same, InDesign CS5 and Mac.
