OS 10.6, CS5
I have some newsletter documents (8-16 pages) in CS5 that have a few text frames with drop shadow and bevel effects applied.
The resulting PDF (exported using some custom settings, but based on "smallest file size") is 7.5MB
The same file, same PDF export settings, but WITHOUT the drop shadow/bevel effect is 1.6MB
I was surpised that the transparency effects would be responsible for more than quadrupling the size of the PDF.
Is there a setting somewhere in the export that I can adjust to bring this down?
The approved template includes these effects so I can't simply remove them.
Ideas would be appreciated!
In your custom PDF setting are you flattening transparency (Acrobat 4 compatibility)? Flattening transparency would tend to make the PDFs larger (because objects may have to be broken into pieces).
In my experience, however, adding transparency always adds to file size.
Steve, no, the settings keep the transparency live (Acrobat 5 compatibility)
I'm surprised at how MUCH the transparency is adding to the file size, though.
I was wondering if something is set up wrong in the template or in the export settings.
