    Roundtrip FW & DW

    shawnamaria
My boss and I are both having this issue on our respective computers... I created my site layout in Fireworks 8 (including slices and rollovers) and exported to DreamWeaver 8. Everything's fine and dandy. But now I want to make updates to the layout , so from DW, I choose Edit, to make corrections to the PNG file in FW, I make my updates accordingly, Save and click Done. DW pops up automatically, assuring me that the two programs are interacting, BUT the layout doesn't refresh - even when I force a refresh ?? Not sure what's going on here? Once upon a time, neither of us had this problem. This just started in the last two weeks. We've found that deleting the html file and images folder from DW and re-exporting from FW solves the problem BUT that's such a pain - plus I've now added some scripts into the html FW file from within DW and I'm afriad I'll lose all of that upon re-exporting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

          Hi Shawnamaria,

Here's a short checklist for you.

1.Is the site properly defined in Dreamweaver?
2.Is Dreamweaver XHTML, or HTML selected in the Fireworks HTML Setup
          dialog box?
3.Has your Dreamweaver document been saved to the site before importing
          the Fireworks HTML?
4.Do you have Design Notes turned on in Dreamweaver?

Any radical changes made to a Fireworks tables structure in Dreamweaver
can create irreconcilable differences between the two applications.

            Hi Linda!
Thank you so much for your help! Here's my answers:
            1) Yep, the site is defined correctly
            2) The html setup is set for html not xhtml - by default (is that how it should be?)
            3) The DW file has definately been saved before I imported the layout
            4) And, I just checked my Designer Notes, which i didn't realize could be shut off - but it's currently on.

            Does that solve anything?
If there is anything else I can answer, please ask away!

Oh, this is interesting, I just tried editing another FW/DW layout from within the same site folder, and it DOES updated in DW after I edit in FW..hmmm...must be something buggy with this one particular file...?

            Thanks!

It lets us know what's not causing the problem. :-)

              Sounds like it could be.
