Lightroom 4 no longer loading images

    debwarr3 Community Member

I have been successfully using Lightroom 4 for several weeks (and the Beta version before that), but today, after downloading the Nik Software Viveza plug in, when I tried to open LR, none of my images were there, and when I clicked on a module, I received an error message saying there was an error trying to change modules.  Not sure what to do. I've uninstalled Viveza, but that did not fix the problem.  I've rebooted many time, that also didn't solve this issue.  I also tried opening a backup from yesterday, but that doesn't work either.  I use a MacBook Pro and am running Lion.

I'm thinking I may want to uninstall LR 4 and reinstall....any thoughts on this?

      Thank you for any help.

Could be a number of things.

First, see if booting into a new catalog makes any difference. Hold down the Option key while booting Lightroom. If you still have an error, try moving the Preference file and restarting

          /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist

Library is a hidden folder on Lion, so you may need to use the Go to Folder command to get to the Preferences folder (i.e the line about without the com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist bit).

Replace YOURUSERNAME with your login name.

          Restart Lightroom.

Sean, thank you for your help.  Unfortunately, that didn't work, but it led me to the correct solution.  I saw the Viveza .plist files, deleted them and LR reloaded.  Unfortunately, I had been in a chat session with Adobe for 4 hours yesterday (they did not help at all!) and several of my recent catalogs were lost, but I was able to go out on my Time Machine and retrieve the most recent catalog and reopen it.  Thankfully, except for losing a little work from yesterday afternoon, all is well.

Thanks again for leading me down the right path.
