Looks like they're saved in a subfolder of your scratch drive, for example:
D:\PSAutoRecover\YourUsername

Mike55YU Mar 26, 2012 8:13 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)I found the subfolder and it had a file that I was just working on, but it didn't have anything from the time it crashed. It did not open when I restarted Photoshop. It seems it only works when you don't need it.

David Jensen Mar 26, 2012 8:35 PM (in response to Mike55YU)Manually saving a file deletes the autosaved version. For example, if you saved four minutes before the crash, there won't be a recovery file for photoshop to open when you relaunch it
