Are internal of external xrefs breaking?
Are you saving the MIFs into the same directory where the unbroken FM file(s) reside?

They are external xrefs.
I have a single file with a table of refs.
I have created a new folder with the files saved in .fm (after translation) and modified the name of the book (added language extension). When I open the files, I have an error and the references in the table of refs are lost.
Is it that I change the name of the book?

Are you doing this within FM or through Explorer?

With FM10, when I save a file in mif format for translation, it loses its cross-references. With the 7.2 release, instead, there is a way to prevent this or automatically update the cross-references.
Is there such a system also for release 10?

goto edit-->update references and drop down the command button on the right side and we have update unresolved cross references there.

I`m not sure to open a new discussion. The theme fits here. The solution maybe not ;-)
We use Framemaker for years and know about updating cross refs.and what to do avoid unresolved cross refs.
Two times (2 different users, 2 different books, 2 different situations) we had this problem, too:
Save 1st as Mif and 2nd as Fm destroy the xrefs to this file.
One time we had the impression that conditional text has s.th. to do with it.
One time a text inset seems to cause the problem.
Deleting step-by-step the trouble maker solved the problem.
I`d like to know if everybody has similar problems and better solutions.
Or if there is a known bug.
We could not reproduce the problem.

Now, we can reproduce the problem!
Text insets in a file are the problem:
FM files (within a book) with text insets and external cross refs loose all external cross refs if you save the whole book
as mif. Backwards convertion to fm is no solution.
This problem can be avoided when you convert the text insets into normal text.
