Is there a red line above the clip on your timeline?
If so, press Enter to render the clip (the red lines will turn green).
If you're still having problems, it could be that your computer is not powerful enough to process this effect with this particular footage.
Thanks Steve, there is a red line. I will do the rendering. I believe my system is powerful enough. It has the i7 intel processor. Thanks so much.
The rendering worked....I reviewed the piece, about 30 mins long and no problems. I saved it and closed the program. I opened it this morning to find the piece needs to be Rendered again for preview. Did I do something wrong, or do I have to Render for preview each time?

That's another issue with version 9 that's been remedied in version 10, unfortunately.
