Where to put block of code that gets used by multiple check boxes on a form

I am new to Javascript, so please go easy on me.

I have a form with many check boxes on it.      I have a block of javascript that I want to execute any time one of the check boxes on the form is checked or unchecked.

I know that I can put the javascript in the properties for each check box, but there seems like there should be an easier way to do this.

Can I create a subroutine some where else and call it from the javascript for each text box?

If I can create a subroutine and call it from each text box, where do I put the subroutine?

Please help.      Example(s) would be great.
