You want to make default settings to change thne you have to do it when no document is open,
Hence close all the file and then make the changes , quit Indesign and reopen you will be good to go.
But you have to know one thing that the preferences are saved along with the file so if you have already have a file with different settings and you open it then the indesign will work based on those settings not your default settings.
Thanks Manish, but I know all that. When I reopen InDesign, all my changes are lost and I'm back to where I was before I attempted to change the defaults.
Check after Resetting the preferences;-
These are normally hidden files, so you will need to set your system to show them. They will be found in various places depending on the OS, and the version of InDesign.
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
What is your OS?
Are you closing ID normally, or force quitting?
Mac OS X 10.7.3
I'm closing InDesign normally, but occassionally, when I have ID, Ph, Acro & Illus all open. ID and Illu crash on closing. And other times ID either freezes or crashes when I'm not even in the program.
If ID fails to close normally yuor reviswd prefs don't get saved. Do you run Suitcase or Q2ID? seems to me that both have been implicated in the sort of crashing behavior you describe.
I run Suitcase 3, but in my workflow, I leave activation off. I open ID, activate Suitcase plug-in, open file, and de-activate plug-in. Since then I no longer crash in ID. But now you've got me wondering if all that on-off plug-in stuff is keeping my prefs from saving properly.
Do you have the latest patch for Suitcase? this sounds pretty typical of the sort of problem being reported.
Does ID work correctly if you remove the Suitcase plugin entirely?
Suitcase is up to date, and, as I said, when I deactivate the plug-in, it does not crash, but that does not affect my inability to save default preferences
Please try removing the suitcase plugin, resetting the prefs to what you want, close ID and reopen.
@Peter Spier, I follow your indication in differents post here at the forum. I have the Error 0 too when I try to save a file. I'm working in CC and It just set yesterday. I reset the preference but still having the same problem. I can't find the file in the "manual" explanation. I'll attach my system version.
Thank you so much in advance
I'm not sure error code 0 is necessarily preferences-related, but here is how to find your hidden folders on Mac: Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later
Is this happening with all files, or just the one? Have you tried updating to the patch released last night?
I saw that link before in another link of you. So what else error 0 could be. this is the message that show up then I try so save the file. It happen in all files. If I open a new file and try to save, here we have the problem agian.
"Not possible to save "untitle-3" with a new name.
File "DBT....." is damage (error code: 0)"
Also I'm no able to "save as" in Acrobat Pro, but I can just "save" :S
Thank you Peter.
That's a serious database corruption error, and your file may be damaged beyond repair. Try exporting as .idml.
My suspicion is you have a software conflict of some sort.
Ok, no worries as a company the should contact with Adobe. Thank you so much Peter.
